Growth in Christian Virtue

To those who have received ^da faith of the same ^{▼▼Or value}kind as ours, ^{▼▼Or in}by ^gthe righteousness of ^hour God and Savior, Jesus Christ: 2 ⁱGrace and peace be multiplied to you in ^jthe knowledge of God and of Jesus ^{▼▼Or our Lord. Since His...excellence, through these (vv 3-4)}our Lord, 3 for His ^ldivine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true ^mknowledge of Him who ⁿcalled us ^{▼▼Or to}by His own glory and ^{▼▼Or virtue}excellence. 4 Through ^{▼▼Lit which}these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent ^rpromises, so that by them you may become ^spartakers of the divine nature, having ^tescaped the ^ucorruption that is in ^vthe world on account of lust. 5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith ^wsupply ^xmoral ^{▼▼Or virtue}excellence, and in your moral excellence, ^zknowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, ^aaself-control, and in your self-control, ^abperseverance, and in your perseverance, ^acgodliness, 7 and in your godliness, ^adbrotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they do not make you useless nor ^aeunproductive in the true ^afknowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For the one who lacks these qualities is ^agblind or short-sighted, having forgotten his ^ahpurification from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more diligent to make certain about His ^aicalling and ^ajchoice of you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never ^akstumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into ^althe eternal kingdom of our ^amLord and Savior Jesus Christ will be ^anabundantly ^aosupplied to you.

12 Therefore, ^apI will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them and have been established in ^aqthe truth which is present with you. 13 I consider it ^arright, as long as I am in ^asthis earthly ^{▼▼I.e., human body}dwelling, to ^austir you up by way of reminder, 14 knowing that ^avthe laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, ^awas also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my ^axdeparture you will be able to call these things to mind.

Eyewitnesses

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised ^aytales when we made known to you the ^azpower and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were ^baeyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a ^{▼▼Lit voice
,} ^bcdeclaration as this was made to Him by the ^bdMajestic Glory: “This is ^{▼▼Or My Son, My beloved, with}My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased”-- 18 and we ourselves heard this ^{▼▼Lit voice}declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the ^bgholy mountain.

19 And so we have ^bhthe prophetic word made more ^bisure, to which you do well to pay attention as to ^bja lamp shining in a dark place, until the ^bkday dawns and the ^blmorning star arises ^bmin your hearts. 20 But ^bnknow this first of all, that ^bono prophecy of Scripture ^{▼▼Or comes from someone’s}becomes a matter of ^{▼▼Or the prophet’s own}someone’s own interpretation, 21 for ^brno prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men ^bsmoved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
